Books Reviews:
“Upon completing this book, I immediately placed it on the reading list for my students and company. This study guide is written by two of the most respected wireless trainers in the business. Coleman and Westcott have created a study guide that goes beyond the
CWNA exam and into real world applications. The review questions and practice tests are well targeted. If you are studying for the CWNA exam, this book is a great tool for honing your skills prior to taking the test. If you implement or plan to implement wireless networks, this book should not be on your shelf but on your desk or in your hands.”
~ Bryan Harkins, AirDefense, Training & Development Manager
“I was excited to see this book come to press. I have attended 2 wireless classes from AirSpy Networks with David Coleman. This man knows wireless networks, and furthermore how to deliver the correct information needed to pass the CWNA exam. The CWNA exam has been criticized by many as being a difficult exam to pass. I passed the
CWNA exam. This book will not only give you the help you need to pass the exam, but the knowledge to truly understand the wireless networking world.
This is a great reference, and I keep it handy at work, where I can use it to help explain general questions that people may have about wireless networking.
I highly recommend this book!”

“Admit it. If you're considering the purchase of a WLAN reference book then you're part of that 1% of us who just have to know how something works. The more technical something is, the better. WLAN technology is no different but since it deals with RF - something that we can't see, feel, taste, or smell, it can be a very difficult concept to grasp.
Not with this book. I read a lot of technical manuals and most read like a text book or even worse, a dictionary. Coleman and Westcott's
CWNA book is different. They've managed to take a very complicated and vague topic and make it understandable for anyone who is just learning about 802.11/WiFi.
This is a very, very good first book for the WLAN newbie. It's very easy to read. (Imagine that in a reference book.) No, I take that back. It's not just a very good first book - it's a very good first, last, or only WLAN book.
Quit reading about it. Save yourself some time and just buy it.”

“I've been stalling on taking the CWNA exam for over a year now. I have always been "too busy" to take the test. In all honesty, I have been very busy, but I also have not studied enough!
This book does not have any "fluff". As soon as you turn the cover page (and I do mean the cover page), you are presented with the CWNA exam objectives and with the corresponding chapter in the book that covers those objectives. This book means business! A couple of pages after that, you'll see the Acknowledgments and a list of companies and people that contributed content for the book. If you've been working in the wireless world for a while, you will be impressed by the list. Still, I'm not one to be easily impressed. Let's see how well this book will prepare me to take the test!
I'm at Chapter Three now, and I already know that this book is a sure-fire winner. I couldn't have picked a better
CWNA Study Guide. The authors have written this book in an incredibly well laid-out format. Each section is technical, but not so technical that you start thinking that you are reading some RFC! You've probably read books like that before, and they are hard to really "learn" from. Instead, the authors make great uses of analogies and real-world examples to help explain the technical concepts. The use of analogies and examples make this book MUCH more enjoyable to read than other technical books and study guides that I have read. To further reinforce the topics, the CD includes some very cool simulation utilities and study-tools to drive the points home. At the end of each Chapter is a short-yet-complete self-test to let you know how well you understood the material, and to let you know what you need to study further.
On the CD is the entire book in PDF format (nice for searching for specific topics). The CD also includes a plethora of test questions, a testing "engine" to help you practice for the test, and electronic "flashcards" for PC, Pocket PCs and Palm Handhelds.
You will be very glad that you purchased this book. Not only is it very educational and easy to read, it is FUN to read. It won't become just another study guide that will sit on your shelf.”

“On 23 Sept. I ordered the CWNA Certified Wireless Network Administrator Study Guide (Sybex) by David Coleman and David Westcott on Amazon. This has got to be it. This is the best bang for the buck. Dollar for dollar you get more from this book then any other CWNA study material I've looked at. The CD alone is worth much more then the price. It has three sets of practice tests with 160 questions total, 215 flashcard questions and the 20 Q&A from each of the 16 chapters are all on the CD along with the complete book in .pdf so you can print Tables and Diagrams. Being able to use the Adobe search function is extremely helpful when trying to track down all of the occurrences of WiFi terms and functionality like RSSI (42 times on 23 pages) or PCF (65 times on 28 pages). There are also
whitepapers on topics like 802.11i and WMM. This book will be beneficial for both the experienced certified professional as well as the novice at the entry level of WiFi. While not skimping on details it does not over power the novice with the higher level intricacies of the technology. This book was a major factor in my passing the
CWNA exam and getting certified on Monday 27 Nov.2006.”

As a corporate consultant and instructor specializing in
wireless networking, I found the book to be most excellent -
clear, concise, accurate, and on point. As an examination study
guide, it is laid out to directly map to the exam objectives. As
a technical reference it will be often reached for from your
bookshelf. Whether you are preparing for the CWNA exam (a
certification I highly recommend) or seeking a solid grounding
in WiFi technologies, this is a must read!
